Oh this is brilliant. I’m gonna save this and use it during my mid-year review. I might even cheat and start working on it early. This framework is fantastic.
It’s so helpful to look at the different things I do as serving these interconnected functions in the ecosystem.
Love this!! This is exactly the mindset I had but kind of in a little different twist. I have been passionate about so many things and decided it’s the most authentic way to show up as all that I am passionate about and that is the ecosystem: I am the garden and the gardener.
So happy to find this and see this work blossoming! I've long been interested in communitarian and WSDE type operations, and was running my former business with those pronciples, but didn't know either of those terms at the time. Was just sort of making it up as I went, inutitively (and with documentation, wasn't all willynilly!) This bridges all that with a softer lens that's more thoughtful and considered and I'm so grateful you share it so freely. When I was on my own, I felt so alone thinking in these terms, going against the grain of conventional business wisdom... Working on a new venture now and I'm eager to work through these prompts/questions with our team <3
Awwww that is so amazing thank you for sharing!! It makes me SO excited that these concepts and ideas are not only being well received but are sparking such interest in folks.
Love the visuals, and I'm always here for a good nature analogy. The business as an ecosystem frame is so on point --especially love the bees / pollinators as revenue stream connection. Thank you for this <3
And… I’m new here + I’m writing about the chaos and joy of virtual work life (think Zoom calls + school pick-ups). Come say hi at The Virtual Life: https://substack.com/@hayleegernert
Hi Natalie! I loved this post, made me think a lot, thank you 🙏🏻
I come with a question, sorry if it’s silly.. I don’t fully understand the difference between core offers and revenue streams… wouldn’t they be the same? For example, if I think about a signature program, isn’t that also a revenue stream?
Great question!! So core offers is really focusing on developing your body of signature work - whatever that may be. For example: for an artist or designer, this may be about developing your portfolio, expanding your skills, deepening your specialty and unique approach- so this part is much more about your gifts and your practice around your gifts. Then, for revenue streams that’s more about focusing on how you can diversify revenue streams to create more balance. So, instead of taking a monoculture approach to revenue streams where you’re dependent on 1 main stream, diversifying your streams so there isn’t a dependency on 1 which can often cause burn out and un sustainability. Lemme know if that helps!
I loved this piece so much. The mindset, the practical tools and the reflection prompts were so to the point yet inspiring. Also, the illustrations are so cute 🌻
Wow, I needed this. I love the reframing of a creative ecosystem because the idea is that you're cultivating life and thriving vs the goal being to scale and get sales or whatever. Definitely going to re-read through this in a journaling sesh and think through how to cultivate my own creative ecosystem.
Love this! And it's such a nice way to think about your practise. I'm not working on my business, I'm creating an ecosystem! Much more fun!
Yes SO much more fun!
